The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. This role supports professional nursing practice across various settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. The RN operates within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which involves planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients. The practice is guided by the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. The RN demonstrates leadership through activities such as precepting, taking on informal and formal leadership roles, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Delegation of patient care is based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The position requires excellent communication skills, proficiency in mentoring and teaching, and potential participation in committees or projects. New Graduate Nurses are directed to apply through the Nurse Residency Program. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
