Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role. Provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members. Key Performance Areas include safely and accurately administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers, using Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines. Responsibilities also include accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines, new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support. Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients is required, ensuring appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities. Proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters must be followed. The role involves educating patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course, and interacting with patients and families in a caring, professional manner. Telephone triage includes prioritizing incoming calls and messages from various sources from emergent to non-urgent and responding accordingly. Assisting with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies, recommending new items, and placing stock in storage areas in a timely manner are also part of the role. The nurse must complete annual required safety and nursing trainings, attend all mandatory staff meetings, and maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information. Assistance in training new employees related to job duties according to JBIs is also expected. The position may require working at any Company location to help meet business needs on an as-needed basis and working overtime when given sufficient notice. Performs other duties and projects as assigned. Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to Company and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Plan.
