About The Position

Works under the direction of the physician and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to make continuing assessments of the patient's total health needs; implements nursing interventions based on assessment data; develops and implements the nursing plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. Strives to provide excellent patient care with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested. All care is provided with kindness and compassion.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
  • Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license
  • Current BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Medical Surgical Units: Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire.
  • Pediatrics: PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within 6 months of hire
  • Intensive Care Unit/ Progressive Care Unit: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire
  • Intensive Care Unit/ Progressive Care Unit: Basic EKG competency within 30 days of hire
  • Women's Services: NRP certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within 3 months of hire
  • Emergency Department: Emergency Severity Index (ESI) training required within 6 months of hire
  • Emergency Department: TNCC required within 24 months of hire
  • Hemodialysis: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Hemodialysis: Basic ECG within 3 months of hire
  • Clinical Decision Unit: Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire
  • ECHO: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ECHO: Basic ECG competency within 30 days of hire.
  • Surgical Services/Circulator: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Surgical Services/Circulator: Basic EKG competency within 30 days of hire
  • Surgical Services/PACU/Outpatient: ACLS and PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Surgical Services/PACU/Outpatient: Basic EKG competency within 30 days of hire
  • Cath Lab: ACLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire
  • Cath Lab: ECG competency upon hire
  • Cath Lab: Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Cardiology: Basic EKG competency within 30 days of hire
  • Clinical Lead: Maintains BLS/ACLS/PALS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross, TNCC, De-escalation techniques, NRP, Basic EKG, and ESI, as required, per RN position description for assigned area(s).

  • Women's Services: ACLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross required during orientation to C-Section recovery role
  • Women's Services: S.T.A.B.L.E. class to be completed during orientation to Nursery
  • Women's Services: AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Course: Basic course to be completed during orientation to labor
  • Women's Services: AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Course: Intermediate course to be completed between 6 - 12 months after orientation to labor completed
  • Women's Services: Two years of recent labor, delivery, post-partum, and newborn experience
  • Women's Services: Inpatient Obstetrical Nursing Certification encouraged
  • Women's Services: Lactation Nursing Certification encouraged
  • Emergency Department: One-year Acute Med/Surg nursing
  • Emergency Department: CCRN or CEN encouraged
  • Acute Rehab: One year Rehabilitation experience
  • Acute Rehab: Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse encouraged
  • Acute Rehab: FIMS certification
  • Hemodialysis: One year of Hemodialysis experience preferred or one year of Critical Care experience
  • Hemodialysis: Certified Dialysis Nurse encouraged
  • Clinical Decision Unit: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ECHO: Two years acute care experience
  • Surgical Services/Circulator: CNOR encouraged
  • Surgical Services/PACU/Outpatient: CPAN and CAPA encouraged
  • Cath Lab: One-year CCU, ICU or ED experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • The nurse provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
  • The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
  • Nursing assessments are completed according to hospital and unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care.
  • Collects pertinent data from the patient, significant others, and health care providers.
  • A comprehensive patient history and physical is completed in a timely manner includes biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
  • Nursing diagnoses / care needs are derived from the assessment data.
  • Involving the patient and significant other as appropriate, the nurse formulates a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified patient needs.
  • Nursing care is based on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs.
  • Nursing care is based on standards of patient care.
  • Evaluation of the patient's response to nursing care is evident in the ongoing assessment data.
  • Nursing diagnoses / care needs are revised based on reassessment data.
  • Coordination of Nursing Personnel
  • Coordination of Patient Care Quality and Patient Satisfaction
  • Coordination of Nursing Process and Compliance
