About The Position

At New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS), the team is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of patients, their families, and communities. The organization comprises expert oncologists, hematologists, and healthcare professionals who provide world-class cancer care locally. The Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in Port Jefferson, NY, with 4/10 hour shifts, Monday-Wednesday, and Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM, with Thursday as a regular day off. NYCBS is a growing organization committed to healing, hope, and advanced care, aiming to deliver personalized services and faster access to technologies and treatments as a comprehensive community oncology center.

Requirements

  • Valid New York State RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and organizational skills
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer, standing, bending and reaching
  • Knowledge of standard precautions and the ability to utilize appropriate PPE when administering cytotoxic agents and handling bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times

  • Proficiency with an EMR (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapeutic and biologic agents, as well as supportive care medications as prescribed by a physician
  • Recognize and treat cancer-related and treatment-related issues
  • Monitor and chart vital signs, document in the medication administration record
  • Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to share expertise and knowledge
  • Participate in cancer research trials, administering medications per protocol
  • Provide supportive resources to patients and caregivers to promote health and wellness
  • Teach patients and caregivers families regarding treatment expectations
  • Monitor patient status during the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive medications
  • Chart the patient’s response to treatment and medication
  • Educate patients and caregivers about follow up care and emergency services
