About The Position

Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for planning directing, assessing and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad nursing knowledge. The registered nurse is an experienced nurse who shall orient new staff, precept students, and assume relief charge nurse duty as oriented and assigned. The RN possesses skills and knowledge to competently evaluate, plan, and implement appropriate nursing care of patients. The Staff RN will provide prescribed medication and treatment, assist physicians during treatment, and monitor and record patient condition, notifying physician when appropriate. The IICN is where the staff RN will be responsible for well-baby, nursery, IICN level 1 and 2 care, attend deliveries, initiate resuscitation as needed, and maintain the skills to stabilize for transfer to tertiary levels of care. The staff RN will be expected to float to the FBC to provide postpartum maternal and infant care. We are a BABY FRIENDLY™ hospital designated by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The expectation for all staff is to adhere to the “10 Steps” of the BABYFRIENDLY™ initiative.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience in a level II or higher level nursery is required or successful completion of a NICU training program.
  • Must have knowledge of well newborn care, newborn delivery admission, resuscitation, and maternal postpartum care (training may be provided).
  • State of California RN license required.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and NRP Advanced Provider are required.
  • STABLE is required for anyone hired after April 1, 2025.
  • Current staff must have S.T.A.B.L.E. completed by September 1, 2026.
  • Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • PALS and ENPC preferred.
