About The Position

Rivers Health is seeking a RN Internal Contract. Provides patient care on the nursing process and interdisciplinary collaboration. The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of nursing with current WV license.
  • BCLS required.
  • One year nursing experience preferred in area assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Performs initial assessment of patient.
  • Formulates a plan of care and nursing diagnosis based on the assessment. Considers emotional and spiritual as well as physical health.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for overall quality of patient care.
  • Ensures patient care is given according to the proficiency level of personnel while retaining accountability for duties delegated.
  • Respects patient privacy rights and values of individual patients and provides care accordingly.
  • Provides guidance to all personnel in their respective duties.
  • Ensures cleaning, stocking, and quality control duties are accomplished.
  • Ensures equipment needed to provide quality care is available. Ensures any malfunctioning equipment is labeled appropriately and sent to Biomed.
  • Performs on-going nursing assessments. Utilizes assessment data to plan, revise, and update patient plan of care.
  • Participates in on-going evaluation of employees.
  • Keeps Unit Coordinator/Supervisor, Patient Care Supervisors and/or Risk Manager apprised of special concerns regarding quality, cost effective care, and risk management issues.
  • Completes all annual competencies.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned.
  • Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
  • Performs nursing care in a safe and timely manner according to hospital policies, procedures, and philosophy.
  • Accurate documentation of care.
  • Provides patient education and discharge planning in collaboration with other disciplines.
  • Assists with orientation of new employees.
  • Assures emergency equipment and supplies are available.
  • Assumes responsibility for safe-guarding medications and narcotics. Safely administers medications with appropriate monitoring.
  • Must be able to cross-train to other units.
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
  • Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration. Participates in unit meetings.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
