About The Position

Temporary Registered Nurse (RN)- 6 month assignment for overnight shift (NOC's)- 8 hour shifts. Prairie St. John's has been providing services for children, adolescents, and adults to address behavioral health and substance use challenges since 1997. Prairie offers inpatient hospitalization, day treatment, supportive housing and intensive outpatient services. Accredited by The Joint Commission, we are the largest, freestanding behavioral health facility in the region. More than 5,000 patients receive care from our compassionate health care team each year at Prairie St. John's. This is a temporary assignment scheduled for 40 hours per week, including every other weekend and holiday. The temporary House Charge (RN) will be paid $65 per hour and is not eligible for any benefits or additional compensation. Applicants may not be current or previous employees of Prairie St. John's. After the assignment ends, applicants may be offered a regular full time or part time position with an hourly rate of pay based on years of experience. Shift hours: 11:00pm-7:30am. Essential Job Duties: Able to assess, plan, intervene, teach, discharge and document on patients and families appropriately based on diagnostic, cultural and developmental issues. Able to be a role model and teach staff to provide the same continuum of care Continually floats in the building monitoring units and hospital floors. Serves as resource to other staff and treatment team. Effectively interprets and clarifies policies and procedures for unit based staff. Exercises sound judgment in decision making. Effectively monitors and assures proper and adequate staffing during shift by referring to unit acuity to review if changes are needed. Provides direction to staffing coordinator by determining coverage of sick leaves, rearranging existing staffing to provide efficient and effective coverage, places staff on on-call status, or mandates overtime, if needed. Assures nursing staff get appropriate breaks. Assists in unit coverage as needed. Effectively identifies, intervenes and addresses all performance issues, seeks input from, and updates the Human Resources Director. Plans, develops, implements, administers, assesses, and maintains departmental objectives, goals and operations. Assists the Director of Nursing with the coordination of daily operations. Monitors and ensures that on-call psychiatrists and physicians accurately reflect patient’s needs and any lab, tests, or other documents which need to be reviewed. Follows up on patients status and progress and addresses any concerns with appropriate personnel Responds in a timely manner to any medical, psychiatric and environmental emergencies. Provides leadership in such situations. Follows up collaboratively with appropriate personnel on maintenance issues, dietary issues, laundry issues, security issues, general administrative issues and receives assistance as needed. Provides coverage for Needs Assessment with ability to cover call center, do a physical assessment/triage or psychiatric assessment. Knowledge of involuntary hold process and is able to complete the process for assessment, documentation and application for emergency hold. Performs quality management monitoring by performing assigned audits, education, mentoring as directed by Nursing Administration. Will follow up in a timely manner on the completion of occurrence reports and PIP data collection and communication. Specific to Night Shift Staff: Effectively audits the medical records to monitor timeliness and thoroughness of the medical record documentation in accordance with regulatory standards. Alerts relevant staff / supervisor of any discrepancies. This position will have access to patient records necessary for treatment and provision of care of assigned patients. Employee must maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA guidelines. In order to meet the essential functions of this position, employees must work as scheduled. All staff at Prairie St. John’s may be required to work in different areas/units and varying shifts depending on the business needs to the facility. Performs other duties as assigned or as requested. Requirements

  • Current license to practice nursing in North Dakota (or eligible to receive or renew).
  • Must be an RN for at least one year.
