About The Position

Registered Nurse- Full Time Days 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM (4/10 hour shifts per week) Outpatient Oncology Morristown Medical Center KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Patient Assessment & Care Planning Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including pain evaluation, functional status, and discharge needs Monitor patient response to treatments and medications; promptly identify and report adverse effects Assess barriers to learning and tailor education accordingly Anticipate and address patient concerns related to treatment impact on lifestyle, family, and work Clinical Skills & Treatment Administration Demonstrate proficiency in infusion therapy, including chemotherapy administration and blood product transfusion Administer medications safely in accordance with hospital policies and best practices Utilize clinical equipment and procedures competently Identify and report risk management and safety concerns Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation in accordance with hospital policy Document care plans, patient responses, and changes in condition Verify physician orders and ensure accurate charge capture Complete required screenings (e.g., PHQ for depression) and escalate findings appropriately Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including reporting of suspected abuse or safety concerns Care Coordination & Collaboration Coordinate and prioritize patient care based on clinical needs Execute physician orders accurately and efficiently Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including pharmacy, social work, and dietary services Facilitate patient and family education and ensure understanding of treatment plans Identify psychosocial needs and initiate appropriate referrals Professional Practice & Development Maintain clinical competencies and remain current with nursing best practices Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, and prioritization skills Serve as a mentor and resource to peers Participate in meetings, committees, and professional development activities Identify personal learning needs and pursue ongoing education Patient Experience & Advocacy Deliver compassionate, respectful, and responsive care to patients and families Uphold patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA Advocate for patient needs and ensure clear communication of care plans and progress Act as a liaison between patients, families, and the care team Safety & Quality Maintain a safe care environment by adhering to infection control standards and National Patient Safety Goals Assess fall risk and implement appropriate interventions Ensure accessibility and safety accommodations for all patients Operational Flexibility Demonstrate flexibility to support staffing needs, including floating to other departments as required Collaborate with physician practices to support clinical protocols and patient care delivery

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Jersey or compact license
  • BLS certification required
  • Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
  • Prior infusion, oncology, or acute care experience preferred
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration and outpatient care strongly preferred
