JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with the philosophy and goals of OSS Health Ambulatory Surgery Center and within the scope of the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act, the Registered Nurse (RN) will complete duties in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The RN is accountable for the completion of all pre-admission procedures utilizing the Nursing Process within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Must have CPR certification and ACLS/PALS certification or the ability to obtain the ACLS/PALS within one year.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the patient.
  • Able to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
  • Physically and emotionally capable of performing position responsibilities.
  • Computer literacy a must
  • Must have professional and effective communication skills and be able to promote effective communication at all levels.
  • Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Recent experience in a surgical, critical care, or same day surgery setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Contacts patients for initial RN assessment.
  • Identifies home medications and allergies.
  • Reviews high risk and abnormal forms.
  • Researches for other patient information from other providers in collaboration with Anesthesia.
  • Communicates with team leads and medical secretaries for updates, changes and cancellations.
  • Reports to manager regarding next day case load.
  • Notifies pharmacy of any medicine issues.
  • Collaborates with others in department regarding patient care concerns.
  • Completes required documentation in timely manner.
  • Coordinates/facilitates patient and family education.
  • Documents accurately and completely pertinent assessments, interventions, and outcomes for patients in accordance with the documentation standards, policies, procedures, and/or guidelines.
  • Maintains skills as determined through yearly competency testing.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities through in-services, education days, self-study, or established educational programs.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists with the orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Assists in equipment maintenance and repair reporting.
  • Serves as a resource person to the health care team.
  • Serves on committees and/or participates in changes of policy and procedures that affect the operation of services as documented.
  • Practices principles of safety and infection control as defined by policy.
  • Utilizes interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and teamwork between departments, health care workers, patients and families.
  • Clinical skills in Preop/PACU setting a possibility at some point.
  • Functions in the role of float or covers charge role as needed to assist in managing the patient and staff schedule, working in collaboration with other charge and management team in decision making process and maintaining efficiency within the ASC day-to-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
