About The Position

This role is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Pre-Op and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) duties. The nurse will be responsible for conducting thorough preoperative assessments, verifying documentation, labs, and consents, and providing patient education regarding surgical procedures and post-operative expectations. Key tasks include initiating IV access, administering medications, and preparing patients for surgery. In the PACU, the nurse will monitor patients, assessing airway, vital signs, pain, and surgical sites, and administer medications and interventions to manage pain, nausea, or complications. The position requires accurate documentation in the EMR system, effective communication with surgical teams and family members, and ensuring safe patient discharge or transfer. The nurse is also expected to maintain cleanliness of the Pre-op and PACU areas, participate in ongoing education and quality improvement, and adhere to infection control and safety protocols. The role demands strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills within a fast-paced, team-oriented hospital environment.

Requirements

  • Current unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Texas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required at time of hire
  • Diploma from an accredited school of nursing; ADN required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a preop/PACU, critical care, and/or emergency department setting preferred
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred

  • Documents all care and assessments accurately in the EMR system
  • Communicates effectively with surgical teams and family members regarding patient status
  • Ensures safe discharge of patients following recovery criteria or prepares for inpatient transfer as needed
  • Maintains cleanliness and readiness of the Pre-op and PACU areas
  • Participates in ongoing education, staff meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Adheres to all infection control and safety protocols
