The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to residents. This role involves collaboration with residents, families, and other inter-disciplinary colleagues, including providers, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The RN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge, applying appropriate age and population specific standards in their assigned clinical setting. They care for residents across all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment, and are responsible for coordinating care, resident assessment, resident education, and various other nursing interventions. The RN may also serve as a charge nurse, delegating appropriate tasks to licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel based on job descriptions, skills, resident care needs, and the delegate's competence level. They are expected to provide adequate assistance and support to delegates to ensure safe, reliable administration of resident care and resolution of concerns. The position requires functioning within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure, adhering to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association.
