About The Position

The Registered Nurse in Emergency Services at Prime Healthcare Saint Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, IL, is responsible for delivering safe patient care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves providing direct patient care within the scope of practice, directing patient/family teaching, and guiding other nursing personnel while maintaining professional nursing care standards in Telemetry and the Emergency Department. The nurse is directly responsible and accountable for patient care in the Emergency Department, communicating with physicians about changes in clinical condition, diagnostic results, and symptomatology. They must be capable of responding quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition and treatment response. Knowledge of EMTALA regulations and reporting child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and the Hospital Social Worker is required, as is maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. The position is full-time, on evening shifts (1p-1a), with rotating weekends and holidays, and offers self-scheduling. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current ALS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 60 days upon hire and maintain current.
  • ECRN or MICN certificate required within 12 months of hire and maintained current (Facility Specific Requirement).
  • Completion of required annual education for EDAP certified facilities (Facility Specific Requirement).
  • NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current for Non-OB facilities (Facility Specific Requirement).
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) required within 12 months of hire and maintain for Trauma designated facilities (Facility Specific Requirement).

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • TNCC preferred for Non-trauma facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and guides patient/family teaching and activities of other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing care in Telemetry.
  • Directly responsible and accountable for the care given to his/her patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Communicate with the physician about the changes in the patient’s clinical condition including results of the diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
  • Capable of responding quickly and accurately to changes in the condition and/or response to treatment.
  • Knowledgeable about EMTALA regulations and reporting of child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies and Hospital Social Worker.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
