The Registered Nurse (PRN) role involves providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care, which includes assessing physical and behavioral health needs, developing and implementing nursing care plans, and maintaining accurate medical records. A key aspect of the position is patient and family education regarding various health conditions. The nurse is expected to deliver care in strict adherence to state Nurse Practice Act regulations, facility policies, and corporate procedures. Responsibilities also include ensuring the legibility and proper transcription of physician's orders, continuously assessing patient status, and documenting pertinent information. The role requires collaboration with other healthcare professionals to address all patient needs—physical, biopsychosocial, age-related, developmental, and cultural—and to resolve any complaints. The nurse must promptly notify physicians of significant changes in patient status, such as detox difficulties or medical emergencies. Additionally, the position entails ensuring nursing treatment plans are tailored to assessed needs and completed upon admission, practicing universal precautions, accurately administering and documenting medications, and efficiently managing admission and discharge processes. Maintaining therapeutic rapport with patients through professional boundaries and effective communication is also essential. The nurse may also be directed to provide leadership or coordinate unit activities.
