About The Position

This position provides professional nursing care to individuals with substance use disorder in an outpatient clinical setting that includes management and dispensing controlled substance medication. Performs additional nursing responsibilities under the direction of the Nursing Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing OR graduate from a school of nursing registered by the NYS Education Department whose graduates are qualified as Registered Professional Nurses.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals and regulatory documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and interested healthcare professionals, and to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts and knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to perform research according to professional format and standards.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques to include sanitation, personal hygiene, nutrition, and psychology of substance use disorders.
  • Ability to maintain professional rapport with physicians, medical, and aligned staff.
  • Must have tact, good judgment, strong initiative, resourcefulness, and understand the principles of medical confidentiality.
  • Leadership skills in a behavioral health setting.
  • Ability to hear and listen.
  • Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Use of hands are required for tasks such as typing, writing, handling documents, and using office equipment.
  • Must have observation skills, mental alertness, and emotional stability.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in substance use treatment, particularly in opioid treatment programs preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish when delivering services is desired

Responsibilities

  • Prepare examination rooms, equipment, and patients before treatment.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to the patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and ally apprehension.
  • Aids the physician during assessment, treatment, and examination of the patient.
  • Administers prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Observes patient and records any significant conditions and reactions and notifies supervisor and/or physician of any reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents.
  • Measure body temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal.
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.
  • Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients.
  • Complete all medical charts and records.
  • Schedules patients for all necessary clinical appointments at prescribed intervals.
  • Maintains accurate records of all methadone orders and dosages dispensed.
  • Arranges transfer of patients and coordinates patient referrals.
  • Participates in department and clinic quality improvement activities.
  • Assumes supervisory responsibilities as assigned.
  • Satisfactory completion of mandatory training(s).
  • Additional duties as assigned.
