About The Position

The Registered Nurse in the Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg) unit on the day shift plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive nursing care to adult patients recovering from surgery or managing acute medical conditions. This position requires the nurse to assess patient health status, develop and implement individualized care plans, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse will monitor patient progress, administer medications and treatments safely, and provide education to patients and their families about post-operative care and disease management. This role demands strong clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to respond promptly to changes in patient conditions. Ultimately, the nurse contributes to a healing environment that promotes patient safety, comfort, and recovery during the daytime hours when diagnostic and therapeutic services are most active.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a medical-surgical nursing setting or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, patient care standards, and infection control practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Advanced certifications such as Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification (CMSRN).
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
  • Familiarity with patient safety initiatives and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately in the medical record.
  • Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient responses to treatments, promptly identifying and reporting any changes or complications.
  • Educate patients and their families on post-discharge care, medication management, and health maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
