About The Position

The Registered Nurse will be responsible for delivering individualized nursing care to patients/families according to their identified needs. The nursing care is based on the nursing process and the medical plan of treatment appropriate to the Rheumatology Specialty Clinic.

Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program
  • Licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas
  • Current BLS certification is required
  • Will obtain advanced life support certification within two years from their date of hire/transfer date

Responsibilities

  • Delivering individualized nursing care to patients/families according to their identified needs
  • Assessing clinical status, incorporating growth and development and psychosocial implications
  • Planning individualized care for patient/family
  • Identifying symptoms, changes, and deviations from the norm
  • Reporting patient/family needs to providers
  • Triaging telephone calls and document accurately findings reported by patient/family
  • Implementing the nursing plan of care while incorporating the medical plan
  • Communicating clearly and appropriately with patient/family and other members of the health care team
  • Determining the effectiveness and correctness of procedures performed; considers follow up actions
  • Evaluating patient/family response to care given and revises as necessary
  • Documenting and updates pertinent aspects of patient care
  • Documenting medical and nursing plans and outcomes
  • Appropriately documenting prescription refills, teaching, and telephone communications/triage with the patient, family, or social services
  • Documenting patient/family understanding of teaching upon clinic departure
  • Seeking opportunity for self-growth through community participation, attending clinic meetings, and membership to professional organizations
  • Seeking out continuing education/certification opportunities
  • Recognizing and maintaining patient/family confidentiality
  • Serving as a resource to others both inside and outside the Medical Center
  • Providing appropriate expert advice and opinions; demonstrates appropriate communication skills
  • Identifying learning needs and participates in clinic staff development
  • Organizing and prioritizing care, delegating when appropriate
  • Identifying potential problems and communicate them appropriately
  • Supervising others
  • Understanding and participating in the Quality Improvement process
  • Exhibiting and maintaining a working knowledge of clinic specific procedures and equipment operation
  • Helping Medical Assistants room patients and check patients out when needed
  • Other duties as assigned
