About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare by providing excellent patient-centered care and services within a dynamic team environment. This role will work to improve overall patient satisfaction and well-being by demonstrating and living the company values: Compassion, Above & Beyond, Generosity, Integrity, and Teamwork.  In addition, this role will attend to general nursing care to patients by performing the following duties.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing required; Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
  • CA RN license required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through an American Heart Association (AHA)-approved source is required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
  • AHA-approved courses include an in-person, hands-on skills check with a certified instructor using a manikin to demonstrate CPR and emergency response techniques.
  • Online-only BLS courses without a live skills check do not meet this requirement.
  • Valid CA driver’s license or out of state driver’s license for active military personnel/spouses required
  • Proof of auto insurance required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgement with confidence
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with deliver care while exemplifying compassion to patients and team members
  • Knowledgeable about and experience with electronic health records systems
  • Ability to apply efficient nursing techniques with confidence

  • Follows all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices
  • Follows all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions
  • Uses appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment
  • Familiarity with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits
  • Follows all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols
  • Maintains privacy of all patients, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes
  • Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations
  • Reports all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful

Nice To Haves

  • Two years’ clinical, outpatient, or general medicine experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Triages patients concerns to determine appropriate care needed
  • Performs clinical procedures, such as injections, wound care, dressing changes, catheter insertion/removal, and administering breathing treatments
  • Responds to lifesaving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Responds to patient telephone inquiries and provider requests regarding medical concerns, lab results, refills, and referrals
  • Provides provider coverage by determining urgency of pending lab results, diagnostic imaging, and medication refills requested
  • Documents patient encounters and care plans in electronic health records system
  • Provides clinical coaching support and indirect supervision to medical assistants
  • Completes ongoing/annual training for position compliance
  • Provides shift coverage at other Neighborhood sites, as directed
  • Reviews and compares needed records and abstract data to California Immunization Registry (CAIR), eClinicalWorks (eCW), and patient’s immunization records; including identifying when patient immunizations are due
  • Verifies immunization orders for accuracy, such as correct vaccine, dosage, expiration date, and age
  • Provides vaccine information statements (VIS) and administers vaccines, as ordered
  • Documents vaccines administered in CAIR, eCW, and patient vaccine records
  • Schedules recall appointments for upcoming due vaccines
  • Ensures all forms are kept up to date, such as Vis forms
  • Completes and submits required reports, including vaccines administered, reminder/recall reports, state flu reports, and other reports, as necessary
  • Manages vaccine inventory to maintain accurate inventory, manages supply expiration dates, and rotations of stock to avoid waste
  • Places vaccine orders in a timely manner to prevent running out of vaccines or creating an over supply
  • Performs routine cleaning standards to maintain refrigerators and freezers for vaccines
  • Conducts proper handling, storage, and management of vaccines in compliance with Vaccines for Children (VFC)/ Vaccines for Adult (VFA) Guidelines
  • Provides staff immunization trainings in conjunction with medical assistant trainings, as needed
  • Provides periodic vaccine updates, in-services, or information to staff, as needed
  • Monitors and records refrigerator and freezer temperatures at least twice a day
  • Assists vaccine excursions in alignment to standard protocols
  • Initiates patient education plan and provides patient education according to their individual needs as prescribed by provider and/or clinic policy, including patient and family instructions
  • Provide on-going support and continuous assessment for international normalized ratio (INR) patients
  • Educates and instructs patients regarding lab tests, results, medication functions, and expectations to gain cooperation and allay apprehension
