About The Position

Based out of the Southern Desert Region office, the Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible to provide for the emotional, medical, and physical needs of Danville’s individuals in supports and improve their quality of life by observing, documenting, reporting, taking action and following-up on their health, safety, and medical needs, and implementing medical recommendations made by the team. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Personal conduct should be professional at all times, and consistent with Danville’s culture, mission, values, philosophy, and policies and procedures. Expectations include, but are not limited to, being a positive role model for individuals supported, employees, co-workers, and management, c omplying with company policies and procedures, treating employees and individuals supported with dignity and respect, including honest and respectful communication, supporting and contributing to a harmonious working environment, and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers, management, parents, case managers, other providers, and any state or government representatives. Assess, document, and report to appropriate management, per state and Danville protocols, any changes in condition of individuals supported, including, but not limited to, signs and symptoms which may be indicative of changes in their overall health, lung sounds, vital signs, changes in pain status, and skin integrity. In case of emergency, call 911 and contact the Program and Region Director immediately. Administer medication and topical treatments to individuals supported as prescribed, following Danville’s procedures, including the six step procedure, and according to supported individuals’ individual medication protocols. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring orders are on individuals supported Medical Administration Records (MARS) observing individuals supported for possible side effects, reporting any problems to Program Director, and assisting with staff development to ensure staff fidelity with the self medication process and filling out MARS. Support individuals supported in maintaining good personal hygiene, which may include, but not limited to, ensuring individuals maintain good oral hygiene, ensuring individuals who are incontinent are changed immediately using proper peri-care, observing for rashes, monitoring bowel movements and recording on individuals’ flow charts, bathing or showering individuals according to individual protocols and, when necessary, observing for signs of skin breakdown. After being properly trained and passing competency, perform additional nursing responsibilities per individuals supported individual needs and Health Care Providers’ (HCPs’) orders. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, following all prescribed therapies from physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, etc., caring for tracheotomies, suctioning, and making changes per doctor orders, maintaining gastrostomy and ostomy tubes, performing wound care, if applicable, and assisting with individuals’ rehabilitation in accordance with their individual plans and HCPs’ orders. Ensure individuals’ medical and dental needs are met, which may include, but not limited to, scheduling and ensuring individuals attend doctor or dental appointments, transporting and accompanying individuals to appointments as directed, keeping immunizations current, following through with physicians orders and recommendations, and providing consistent communication between residential and day program providers to ensure individuals’ receive needed supports. Ensure individuals’ privacy is respected at all times, which may include, but is not limited to, ensuring their medical information is secured and complies with Danville and HIPAA privacy regulation, they participate in medical decisions according to their ability and/or have proper family/guardianship involvement, and they are involved in their individual health care plans and protocols to the extent possible. Ensure individuals’ medical management information is up to date and accurate. Act as a resource to direct support employees, which may include, but is not limited to, conducting health service orientations, providing training to employees to ensure they can competently medically assist clients, including training and certifying employees in self-medication procedures, and performing fidelity checks to verify employees are adequately performing their duties as they pertain to medical issues and the self-medication process. Work schedule will be determined by the team and the needs of the individuals supported. Requirements may include, but are not limited to, notifying the supervisor by telephone (not voicemail or text message) when first anticipate not being able to work, communicating anticipated working schedule and any changes in schedule as circumstances arise, completing time records accurately and legibly, and submitting them on time with appropriate documentation. Complete required pre-service and on-going training requirements within Danville and state required timeframes and meeting region required competency levels, and complete additional training per year as required or as scheduled. Assure good, timely, communication with all employees, and or external agencies, regarding issues related to individuals supported health and quality of life. Participating in on-call responsibilities. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Safely transport individuals supported to and from activities, work, and home, and comply with Danville’s vehicle safety, maintenance, and cell phone use policies. Duties may include, but are not limited to, following all state and local laws, never leaving individuals supported unattended in vehicles, turning off engine and taking keys when leaving vehicles, and keeping radios at a level that allows the driver and passengers to hear someone talking or emergency signals or sirens.

Requirements

  • RN Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Proof of active license required.
  • Minimum of 1 year nursing experience and/or experience with Developmental Disabilities
  • Required to pass a criminal background check and/or fingerprint clearance
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • If responsible for driving on company business, must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid state driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and an insurable driving record
  • Food Handlers and TB tests, per specific state requirements
  • Keyboarding and computer skills
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Must be highly organized
  • Must have good interpersonal communication skills
  • Data collection via Therap
  • Maintain and update medical histories on Therap
  • Must have an unencumbered state license
  • CPR/First Aid

  • IV certification preferred
