About The Position

The Brighton Center for Specialty Care is the newest University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facility dedicated to providing high quality health care services for adults and children. The new 2-story facility is located at 7500 Challis Rd. Brighton MI. Provide nursing care to adult and pediatric patients and their families in the Department of Otolaryngology with full participation in all aspects of clinic activities and procedural services. Tele-health nursing to include triaging calls from patients and families, clinicians and other healthcare team members. Will act as the RN assisting/supporting faculty in the procedure/treatment room with minor and complex procedures. Care will be provided to adult and pediatric patients.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Three (3) years, within the last five (5) years, of RN experience directly caring for adult and/or pediatric otolaryngology patients.
  • Demonstrated ability of effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to changing needs and priorities on clinic, department, and institutional goals/objectives.
  • Demonstrated accountability and dependability, e.g., completion of work, mandatories, goal setting within established timelines.
  • Excellent attendance records as evidenced by references and evaluations.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and problem solve effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to seek constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues.
  • Demonstrated willingness to support and participate in change based on unit, department, and institutional goals and objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year within the last five years experience in an ambulatory care surgical clinic (Oto preferred).
  • Telephone triage and inbasket management experience within ambulatory care.
  • Nursing certification
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
  • Recent demonstrated proficiency with documentation in an electronic health record, e.g., Epic as indicated by interviews, references, and or performance evaluation.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as evidence by resume, annual evaluations, and references

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to adult and pediatric patients and their families in the Department of Otolaryngology with full participation in all aspects of clinic activities and procedural services.
  • Tele-health nursing to include triaging calls from patients and families, clinicians and other healthcare team members.
  • Will act as the RN assisting/supporting faculty in the procedure/treatment room with minor and complex procedures.
  • Care will be provided to adult and pediatric patients.
  • Preoperative teaching, counseling and obtaining informed consent for a variety of surgical procedures
  • Provide direct support during procedures occurring within the suite
  • Perform tele-health triage, educational support, prescription refills, results follow up and care coordination
  • Collaborate with other health care team members to provide continuity of care
  • Participate in emergency management response to urgent medical issues occurring within the building for patients/visitors
  • Assist in maintaining patient flow in clinic
  • Assist in the development and implementation of competencies, protocols and patient education tools
  • Participate in clinic team meetings to improve process
  • Assist in orientation of team members as appropriate, including observation and participation of patient care activities.
  • Actively participate and support performance improvement activities related to self, clinic, department, and institutional goals and objectives.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
