About The Position

The Registered Nurse at Marshall Internal Medicine is responsible for providing direct patient care, considering age-related factors for patients from pediatrics to geriatrics. This role involves performing medical procedures such as injections, suture removal, and dressing changes, as well as communicating vital health information to patients and their families regarding care needs, medication, and wound care. The nurse will assist physicians with examinations, procedures, and minor surgical procedures, ensuring accurate and timely documentation in patient medical records. Additional duties include scheduling various medical procedures and hospital admissions, maintaining supply stock and equipment functionality, preparing exam rooms, and handling prescription calls and patient follow-ups. The position requires adherence to established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards, including OSHA regulations. Professional growth is encouraged through participation in educational programs to maintain state licensure, and the nurse is expected to code office visits for reimbursement using CPT-ICD-10 codes. The role also involves continuously improving nursing standards and practices to align with new office concepts and managerial methods, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of nursing.
  • Current RN license required.
  • Minimum one year experience in medical/surgical nursing or related clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Considers age-related factors in the care, treatment, assessment and education of patients. Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.
  • Performs direct patient care as ordered by the physicians, i.e., injections, suture removal, dressing changes and other duties as required.
  • Communicates to the patient and/or patient's family information with regards to specific health care needs, i.e., signs and symptoms, reaction to medication therapy and precautions, wound care, medication administration and others as needed.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care; including minor surgical procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of documentation on patient medical records on a timely basis. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
  • Schedules patients for various x-rays, scans, surgical procedures and hospital admissions appropriately.
  • Assists in maintaining an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Prepares rooms for exams as specified by each individual physician.
  • Performs ancillary patient care duties through calling prescriptions to pharmacies and assisting the physicians with return calls to patients.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards, conforming to OSHA regulations and other agencies.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs to maintain state licensure.
  • Codes office visits i.e., examination, office surgery for reimbursement using CPT-ICD-10 codes which complement each other.
  • Ensures and seeks to improve nursing standards and nursing care practices to meet new office practice concepts and managerial methods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
