Port Room Nurses are clinical experts in vascular access who specialize in the assessment and placement of appropriate IV catheters. They are highly skilled in inserting peripheral IVs and accessing Port‑a‑Cath and PICC lines, as well as evaluating vein health for peripheral lab draws and chemotherapy treatment needs. These nurses provide patient education on catheter placement, use, and ongoing maintenance—both in the clinical setting and for those discharged with an accessed port or PICC line for infusion. They also perform device maintenance, including dressing changes, flushing, and troubleshooting, while educating patients and staff on proper line care and infection prevention.
