About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln, NE. The NDCS employs nearly 2,300 team members across nine institutions statewide, housing approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Candidates are expected to model the NDCS values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence to fulfill the mission: "Keep people safe." This position offers a starting wage of $50.000/hour, with an additional $3/hour facility differential for hours worked, plus a $1.50 - $2.50 shift differential.

Requirements

  • A current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance
  • Must submit to background security check
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the pre-employment medical examination and a drug test
  • Must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services' Pre-service Training Program (once at the Staff Training Academy)

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional nursing care for ill, injured, or disabled inmates
  • Provides clinical direction and guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses and direct care staff
  • Provides direct patient nursing care and treatment within the scope of licensure in a correctional setting
  • Performs patient care in a clinic or hospital setting
  • Administer medications
  • Transcribe and carry out doctor's orders
  • Assess patients utilizing protocols
  • Triage patients
  • Assist in moving patients
