About The Position

Position Overview: Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or Nurse Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care at El Centro Family Health, in accordance with the New Mexico State Nurse Practice Act. The RN provides direct patient care, assists providers, and supports clinical operations while maintaining professional standards and adherence to organizational policies.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New Mexico.
  • One year of healthcare experience.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate proficiency with PC software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Use the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to accurately document vital signs, patient symptoms, history, and other information in preparation for provider encounters.
  • Assist providers during patient treatments, procedures, and examinations by performing standing orders and protocols such as urinalysis, blood glucose, pregnancy and hematocrit testing; administering oral, intravenous, and injectable medications; performing peak flow tests, pure-tone audiograms, visual acuity testing, and EKGs.
  • Support providers in invasive/minor surgical procedures, suture removal, and monitor patients for reactions to medications, responsiveness to treatment, and adherence to care plans.
  • Maintain accurate patient records by documenting changes, progress, reactions, and treatments; suggest updates to treatment plans; transcribe provider orders after verification.
  • Ensure the security and adequacy of medications by ordering, receiving, and managing pharmaceutical inventory; remove expired medications; perform annual inventories; monitor medication refrigerator temperatures; and safeguard access to the drug room.
  • Maintain medical equipment and supplies by ordering, receiving, stocking, and cleaning supplies; sterilizing instruments; testing equipment; and performing annual inventory checks.
  • Educate patients by disseminating health information and literature on family planning, prenatal care, and disease prevention across all age groups.
  • Support clinic compliance with state licensure by implementing quality assurance protocols in pharmacy, laboratory, and patient care areas.
  • Assist with continuity of care and case management, including tracking specialty referrals, following up on abnormal lab results, and patient education.
  • Maintain patient files by updating medication lists, lab results, visit notes, and other required documentation.
  • Provide clinical support by answering calls, performing triage, and assisting walk-in patients as needed.
  • Uphold professional standards and teamwork, maintaining a positive demeanor while contributing to high-quality patient care.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, respecting patient rights, confidentiality, and needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
