About The Position

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care in collaboration with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The ED RN coordinates and delivers care in the Emergency Department setting using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate safe and effective patient care. This role promotes patient confidentiality, comfort, advocacy, and safety while practicing within the scope of professional nursing standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification – required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification – required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Emergency Department or emergency services experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Prior experience in Emergency Department, Critical Care, or Critical Access Hospital settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care utilizing all components of the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Identifies patient and family learning needs and implements education strategies while addressing barriers to learning.
  • Applies critical thinking skills and evidence-based practice to deliver care appropriate to the patient’s functional, developmental, and clinical needs.
  • Identifies actual and potential risks and demonstrates leadership during emergent or crisis situations.
  • Performs accurate and timely nursing assessments and communicates concise, problem-focused reports to providers based on assessment findings.
  • Assigns appropriate triage levels using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) based on patient presentation and anticipated diagnostic and treatment needs.
  • Demonstrates competency in emergency department equipment, medication administration, IV therapy, and use of automated dispensing systems, including medication scanning and shift narcotic counts.
  • Safely prepares and administers medications and infusions, including admixtures, procedural sedation support, and post-treatment monitoring.
  • Coordinates follow-up care activities, including laboratory monitoring, positive culture follow-up, diagnostic imaging coordination, and patient disposition.
  • Utilizes monitoring systems, nurse call systems, and emergency response protocols appropriately.
  • Participates in organ donation processes and post-mortem care in accordance with hospital policy, when applicable.
