This position is open to experienced psychiatric or Complex Intervention Unit Registered Nurses. The RN will primarily serve in both the in-house BERT RN and ED BERT RN roles, with occasional shifts on Jo7C, the Complex Intervention Unit. Location: Joseph 7C (JO7C), Complex Intervention Unit (General Care). The BERT RN supports Rochester Methodist Campus and St. Marys Campus in-patient units and the Emergency Department. BERT position description: Responsible for the daily coordination of behavioral health interventions within the ED and throughout the RST campus. This position plays an integral role in the care of patients with acute psychiatric illnesses and behavioral crises. The BERT RN also works collaboratively with others to assure prompt follow up of any issues. The employee fulfills all Registered Nurse Job Description requirements when working in this role and as an RN member of the BERT. Patient Care Type: The Complex Intervention Unit is a 10-bed secured medical/surgical unit that is designed to provide care to adult patients with multiple comorbidities. This unit was specifically designed to safely care for patients who have an increased risk of potential danger of harming self or others and/or verbal or physical aggressive behavior. Nursing Team Roles: Nurses on JO7C are specially educated to teach and care for patients with complex medical/surgical and behavioral health needs. An emphasis on early intervention and a holistic nursing approach is used to meet the needs of this diverse patient population. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
