Requirements

  • Active New York State Nursing License in good standing
  • Associate Degree in Nursing from an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Recent inpatient labor and delivery or mother baby experience (within 5 years) or 3 years recent OB outpatient experience
  • For eligible candidates for the GHMC Maternal Child Health Orientation Program: 2 years Medical-Surgical OR 1 year Critical Care Experience
  • NRP within 3 months of hire or transfer
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Evidence of Fetal Monitoring course completion
  • C-EFM within 36 months after completion of unit orientation
  • BLS certification
  • Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Considerable visual demands
  • Ability to perform RN essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health / Pre-Screening Assessment
  • Ability to use assistive devices for patient transferring tasks if lifting more than 35 lbs of a patient's weight
  • Ability to handle moderate to frequent heavy ergonomic stressors (lifting, positioning, pushing, and/ or transferring of patients)
  • Must participate in Safe Patient Handling Initiatives
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to organize and synthesize new information and prioritize tasks
  • Possess critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate, Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an Accredited School of Nursing
  • American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification (Based on Certification specialty hours of work requirement)
  • NCC Specialty Certification: Inpatient Obstetrics, Maternal Newborn/Low risk newborn and/or EFM
  • Stable course training

  • Identify and report any potentially dangerous situations which could cause medical error and/or patient or staff harm.
  • Immediately take action, where appropriate, to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Report errors, when these occur, to supervisor and in the MIDAS RDE system on an Incident report.
  • Participate when appropriate in Root Cause Analysis and/or other efforts to reduce the risk of medical error and/or patient or staff harm.
  • Complete annual / required mandatory training within certain time frames.
  • Maintain current BLS training.
  • Have appropriate additional AHA training prior to beginning the position in certain clinical areas.
