Position Overview: Cancer Care Northwest is seeking a dedicated full-time Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team. This position is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. This includes physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. Participates in companywide quality initiatives. Supports and adheres to the Cancer Care Northwest Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Business Experience – 3-5 years nursing experience including at least one year in oncology preferred
  • Specialized Knowledge/Skills – Oncology certification preferred.

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. This position requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physician with exams and procedures.
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
  • Assesses and records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Maintains all exam room disinfection protocols.
  • Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans, drug reactions and initiates appropriate
  • Maintains knowledge of reimbursement procedures.
  • Completes all procedure charge forms.
  • Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to all procedures and administration of therapies.
  • Assures nursing charges are accurate and complete on patient fee slips.
  • Is skilled in performing venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices. Registered Nurses in the primary nurse role will be able to cross train to the infusion nurse role.
  • Administers all medications using correct medication, dosage/amount, route, time and technique.
  • Displays appropriate technical skills for the administration of medications to include, but not limited to: sub-q, IM, and venipuncture.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and restocks the supply area as needed.
  • Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Acts as a resource person to the medical assistants.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Maintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
  • Performs all other duties/responsibilities as necessary or assigned.
