About The Position

This employee will work closely with a Physician and an APP in the Pediatric Survivorship Program. This program serves survivors of childhood cancer and the patient ages range from young children to young adults. The role will include (but not be limited to) the following responsibilities: preparing patient charts for Survivorship Clinic, attending a weekly clinic preparation meeting, attending Survivorship Clinic (currently there are 4 clinic days per month) in both the Cancer Center and the outpatient clinic in Brenner Children's Hospital and helping to manage the inbasket and patient phone calls. There may be some patient care responsibilities, including but not limited to taking vital signs and administering vaccinations. With time, this employee will become familiar with late effects of cancer treatments, the Children's Oncology Group Survivorship Guidelines and learn to create Cancer Treatment Summaries in Encompass.

Requirements

  • Graduation from accredited School of Nursing.
  • Two years of acute care experience required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of North Carolina
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families
  • Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships
  • Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software programs

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Prefer acute care experience within the last 10 years.
  • Familiar with late effects of cancer treatments
  • Familiar with the Children's Oncology Group Survivorship Guidelines
