About The Position

University Physicians Association is seeking qualified applicants for Registered Nurse (RN) position for University Colon & Rectal Surgeons (UCRS) located within the UT Medical Center. Position Summary: The RN will work closely with colorectal surgeons and the care team to coordinate and provide nursing care to patients in a fast-paced clinical environment. This role requires strong assessment skills, patient education, procedural assistance, and the ability to support patients throughout the surgical care continuum.

Requirements

• Current RN license in the state of [State]
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
• BLS certification (current)
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in a clinic or surgical setting

Nice To Haves

• Experience in colorectal surgery, GI, or wound/ostomy care preferred
• Knowledge of Cerner or other EMR systems
• Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) a plus

Responsibilities

• Conduct nursing assessments and patient triage, both in-person and via phone
• Assist in minor office procedures (e.g., anoscopy, wound care, drain management)
• Educate patients and families about surgical procedures, pre- and post-op instructions, ostomy care, and medication management
• Coordinate preoperative testing, imaging, and follow-up appointments
• Monitor and document patient progress and communicate changes to the care team
• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EMR
• Participate in quality improvement and infection control initiatives as required
