About The Position

The registered nurse in acute care must adhere to the RN legal scope of practice. The RN role is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide quality, competent nursing care in the acute care setting to patients, families, and significant others. Performs under direct supervision of the CNO and Assistant Director of Patient Care Services. Provides direct nursing care to the patients and supervises daily nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses and certified nursing assistants. Such care and supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This role must work collaboratively with other team members, physicians, and healthcare workers to deliver quality care. Must understand and use nursing process, must be able to critically think and be self-directed to manage patient care. Must be able to effectively delegate, collaborate, and negotiate with team members. Must handle stressful situations effectively. Must be able to patient teach, be able to communicate effectively with patients, family, physicians, and other providers. When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as part of their training any or all employees may be asked to supervise employees.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an American College of Nursing or National League for Nursing accredited college of nursing.
  • Current South Dakota RN license or multi-state licensure privileges.
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to acute care.

Responsibilities

  • Collects and organizes pertinent patient assessment data.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify expected outcomes unique to the patient.
  • Develops a plan of care consistent with assessment data.
  • Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care.
  • Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Documents in a responsible, accountable and ethical manner.
  • Provides leadership in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Assists with orientation of new personnel.
  • Monitors utilization of equipment and usage of supplies to assure quality patient care.
  • Communicates with family and health professionals regarding care to the patients.

Benefits

  • Normal working hours are twelve-hour shifts, Sunday through Saturday, including holidays.
  • May be exposed to communicable or infectious disease, hazardous materials, and injury from performance of assigned duties.
  • Initial Tuberculosis (TB) test and drug screening is required.
  • Rubella titer will also be drawn upon hire and immunization is required if no past exposure or indication of immunization.
