About The Position

The Registered Nurse position at the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) involves providing nursing care to clients with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and developmental disabilities. Requirements

  • Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Current Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse or Multistate license.
  • One (1) year of experience at the lower level Registered Nurse 1 or position equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client health problems and needs under general supervision.
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans and maintain medical records.
  • Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled clients.
  • Advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management.
  • Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on clients' charts.
  • Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate client care plans.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed reports and client records.
  • Modify client treatment plans as indicated by clients' responses and conditions.
  • Monitor all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity.
  • Monitor, record, and report symptoms and changes in clients' conditions.
  • Observe nurses and visit clients to ensure proper nursing care is provided.
  • Prepare clients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments.
  • Prepare rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring stock is maintained.
  • Provide education to clients and families.
  • Provide health care, first aid, immunizations, and assistance in convalescence and rehabilitation.
