About The Position

This job opportunity is for a Women's Health (WH) Infertility and Interdisciplinary Care Coordinator Registered Nurse (RN) position at the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center located at HJ Heinz. This RN position is an integral part of the women's health team, will navigate fertility services for male and female Veterans, and will demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving WH care through collaborative interdisciplinary strategies with an emphasis on cardiovascular risk in women.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • English Language Proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of Acute Care, Emergency Department, Case Management, Urgent Care or any other Ambulatory Experience.
  • Two years of experience with data analysis, performance improvement and implementing evidence-based changes.
  • Experience in women's health and infertility.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the coordination of fertility care for Veterans.
  • Ensures compliance of VHA Services for Women Veterans and fertility services outlined in VHA Directive 1330.01, Healthcare Services for Women Veterans, VHA Directive 1332 Fertility Management, and VHA Directive 1334, In Vitro Fertilization Counseling and Services to Certain Eligible Veterans and their Spouses.
  • Functions as a coordinator/navigator and liaison for planning, directing, and coordinating care for male and female Veterans with infertility.
  • Effectively communicates with Veterans and/or lawful spouses about fertility eligibility and services and documents previous fertility care.
  • Works closely with Primary Care, Gynecology, and Urology team to effectively coordinate fertility services.
  • Collaborates with the Office of Community Care on referrals for care in the community and ensures consults are renewed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures fertility consults are appropriately placed in the medical record.
  • Ensures effective communication of care between the VA and infertility providers in the community.
  • Triages telephone calls, secure messaging, and offers same-day appointments as appropriate.
  • Leads and directs Facility led Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) in reviewing all fertility consults for eligibility and approval in a timely manner.
  • Monitors the provision of services including tracking cryopreservation utilization, intrauterine insemination and IVF attempts/cycle time limits.
  • Participates in VISN 4 Fertility Point of Contact and National Fertility IDT Office Hours virtual monthly meetings.
  • Ongoing review of primary care EQM metrics and develop action plans for identified comparisons by birth sex category metrics that are >5%.
  • Review outliers for hypertension and other cardiovascular health metrics to identify appropriate patients for WH Cardiovascular Risk Assessment and Management Clinic.
  • Participates in quality improvement programs and initiatives including system redesign, to improve access, quality, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
  • Serves on the Women Veterans Health, WH Team Meeting, and participates in EOC rounds as needed.
  • Facilitates, coordinates, and participates in reproductive healthcare in accordance with Final Rule AR57.
  • Provides cross-coverage for Maternity Care RN Coordinator, Mammogram RN Coordination, and Gynecology/Cervical Screening RN Care Coordinator.
