About The Position

Position Summary: The registered nurse provides clinical leadership and operational oversight for nursing services during the assigned shift. The role ensures appropriate staffing, timely clinical intervention, effective delegation, and adherence to facility policies, professional standards, and state/federal regulations. Responsible for ensuring the planned care is delivered in a safe, economical, and efficient manner that follows the facility’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a current, active license as a Registered Nurse in Georgia with no restrictions on license.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must be able to relate to individuals with various ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions.
  • Relates cooperatively and constructively with all patients, guests, families, physicians, peers, and all healthcare members, as well as anyone that JHS’s employees interact with while performing their daily duties.
  • Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Wears identification at all times while on duty.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  • Complies with all organizational and departmental policies.
  • Full ambulation and precise eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able to operate equipment necessary to perform job duties.
  • Knowledgeable and competent to perform essential functions.
  • Must be able to deal with a variety of personalities, both pleasant and irate.
  • Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions.
  • Moderate to high amount of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, and kneeling required.
  • Must maintain good health and physical condition and provide documentation of a current physical examination indicating freedom from communicable diseases, as required.
  • Minimum lifting requirement of 50 pounds.
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth and expertise.
  • Must meet the minimum requirements of the performance standards outlined in the criteria-based evaluation form.

Responsibilities

  • Helps to oversee patient care to ensure the satisfaction of residents and families by reviewing resident status, developing relationships with residents and families, and resolving problems and complaints.
  • Monitor and assist in the Dining Room during meals.
  • Check medication room weekly for expired medications; complete audit form.
  • Complete medication inventory for medication reorders as needed.
  • Ensure CNAs check vital signs and complete nail care as per weekend protocols.
  • Complete treatments as ordered and document in Matrix (E.H.R.)
  • Order and document any new treatment needs.
  • Monitor and assist staff with the skin prevention program.
  • Monitor and assist staff with the bowel and bladder program.
  • Document effectiveness of antibiotics given for wounds/skin problems in nurse’s notes daily until antibiotic is complete.
  • Complete assessments, including but not limited to: Braden scales, skin assessments, bowel and bladder assessments, and/or indwelling catheter assessments, as ordered and for all hospital returns.
  • Address any family or resident concerns or grievances as appropriate and document as indicated.
  • Notify D.O.N. (or on-call supervisor) of any newly developed pressure sore, staffing issues, or any facility emergencies.
  • Complete incident report forms for any resident injuries of unknown origin, altercations, or other abuse issues according to facility policy.
  • Call D.O.N. and/or RNH Administrator as required.
  • Work as Charge Nurse if needed for 7A–7P shift or other on-call duties as assigned.
  • Arrives for the scheduled shift no earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the shift begins and clocks out no later than fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled shift ends.
  • Demonstrates loyalty to the organization, honesty, and integrity at all times in the care and use of patient/resident and facility property.
  • Demonstrates positive support of any and all programs/projects implemented by the D.O.N., ADON, or Administrator.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/resident information.
  • Displays a neat, clean, and professional appearance at all times.
  • Cooperates when needed if the facility faces an emergency or unusual circumstance.
  • Provides duties as the Charge Nurse and/or Treatment Nurse as needed.
  • May be asked to participate on committees and community projects.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, performance improvement, and infection control activities as necessary.
  • Promotes teamwork with physicians, patients/residents, families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Uses proper body mechanics for transfers, lifting, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.
