The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse at their Student Health Service. The Registered Nurse is responsible for clinical assessment, triage, and management of students receiving care at the University of Miami Student Health Service. The successful candidate will be able to create and maintain an environment of patient-focused care, anticipating and appropriately responding to student needs and ensuring that the student’s overall experience meets or exceeds standards of medical care. The RN 1 reports to the Director of Student Health Service/Clinical Responsibilities: Monitor EMR triage/appointment screen and prioritize patient intake according to visit reasons, available staff, and established provider to maintain overall patient flow. Triage patients including patient verification, visit reason, recording vital signs and reviewing immunization compliance, medication review, depression screening, and other screening functions deemed necessary. To perform nursing tasks such as, but not limited to 12-lead EKG, vision screening, ear lavage, wound care, glucose monitoring, nebulizer treatments, spirometry, pulse oximetry, IV insertion, oxygen administration, STD testing, assistance with gynecological exams, CLIA waived lab testing, etc. Respond to and assist with urgencies and emergencies, seeking assistance from medical providers and other as appropriate. Administer injections including immunizations, allergy injections, medications, and PPD testing. Assist medical providers during procedures including suture and removal, I&D and gynecologic examinations. Participates in patient education and campus outreach programs including seasonal flu and medical student PPD campaigns. Assist with administrative functions including quality review initiatives, follow-up of abnormal pap and others testing, follow-up of on-call answering service encounters, ER referrals, and SACC reports. Clinical Support Responsibilities: Ordering and receiving vaccines. Performing weekly inventory checks. Ordering clinical supplies, supervising and assisting with the stocking of patient rooms and adhering to inventory pars. Daily inspections of crash cart and AED machine. Responsible for adhering to all quality assurance and infection control guidelines including the University’s Environmental Health and Safety, Infection Control, OSHA and Joint Commission policies and procedures. Additional duties as assigned including weekend coverage, hurricane coverage, emergency coverage. Education: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred. RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.
