About The Position

The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator is a Registered Nurse responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Program for Halifax Health’s Level II Trauma Center. This role ensures continuous monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of trauma care, in alignment with American College of Surgeons (ACS) and Florida Department of Health trauma standards. The PI Coordinator collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and administration to enhance trauma outcomes and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Florida RN license.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and ENPC required.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in trauma, critical care, or emergency nursing required.
  • Prior experience in trauma performance improvement, quality, or registry management strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of FLDOH and ACS trauma standards and performance improvement methodologies required.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficient in data management, report generation, and quality analysis.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and drive change across clinical and operational areas.

  • ATCN, TCRN, or CEN preferred.
  • FCOT, STN, ENA, ATS - Professional Memberships preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Trauma PIPS program, ensuring compliance with ACS-COT and state trauma standards.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret trauma performance data to identify trends, system issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate case reviews, loop-closure activities, and interdisciplinary PI meetings.
  • Collaborate with providers and staff to develop and monitor action plans addressing clinical or operational performance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of PI activities, including minutes, tracking logs, and follow-up reports.
  • Partner with the Trauma Registrar to ensure accurate and timely abstraction of trauma data.
  • Utilize registry and performance dashboards to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Generate performance reports for trauma leadership, hospital administration, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide education to physicians, nurses, and staff on trauma PI processes, evidence-based guidelines, and outcome metrics.
  • Serve as a liaison between the trauma program, hospital departments, EMS providers, and external agencies.
  • Support trauma program outreach, research, and community initiatives as related to performance improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with ACS-COT standards, Florida Department of Health trauma system requirements, and hospital policies.
  • Assist with preparation for ACS reverification and state trauma reviews.
  • Support quality initiatives within emergency, surgical, critical care, and ancillary services.
