About The Position

The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) position involves collaborating with physicians to create a comprehensive care plan aimed at restoring patients to optimal health. The role includes providing bedside nursing care, executing medical orders, and overseeing the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, OB Care Associates, Surgical Service Assistants, Nursing Clerks, and Psychiatric Technicians. The nurse is also responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification.
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Critical Care course within one year of hire/transfer.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the first available Basic Dysrhythmia course.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care setting or equivalent.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse certification.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegate and coordinate tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitate and participate in patient conferences.
  • Identify and address patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with appropriate resource persons.
  • Attend discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Seek out educational opportunities for professional growth.
  • Utilize programs in the hospital or community for professional development.
  • Teach and guide professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precept and mentor new employees and students.
  • Function as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
