Requirements

  • Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred (or enrolled within 12 months, completed within 4 years).
  • Experience: Prior ICU or step-down experience preferred, but strong clinical skills and the drive to learn can make you unstoppable.
  • Licensure & Certifications:
  • Active RN license in the District of Columbia (DC) required.
  • CPR/BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross).
  • ACLS preferred; specialty certifications as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert, high-acuity nursing care for post-open heart, thoracic, and complex surgical patients in a fast-paced, team-driven ICU.
  • Think fast, act precisely, and stay calm under pressure-identifying changes in condition, anticipating complications, and intervening decisively.
  • Partner with world-class cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver seamless, patient-centered care.
  • Lead with confidence, developing and executing care plans that reflect deep critical thinking, technical skill, and compassion.
  • Advocate fiercely for your patients and their families, ensuring their voices are heard in every decision.
  • Mentor and inspire newer nurses through collaboration, coaching, and leading by example.
  • Push the limits of what's possible in patient care because excellence is the standard, not the goal.
