The Surgery Outpatient Offices (SOPA) is a clinic caring for surgical patients. As a team member, you will work alongside the surgeon, caring for patients beginning with their surgical consultation and continue throughout their surgical journey. You will provide pre and post operative education as well as phone triage for patients and their families questions, before and after their surgery. Our patient population includes plastic surgery and general surgery, including hepatobiliary and colorectal surgeons. Our clinic also has a dedicated dietician and a social worker. Our clinic has 25 clinic rooms that includes two treatment rooms. We have approximately 12K patient visits per year. Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm clinic with some flexibility.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre and post operative education to patients and their families.
  • Conduct phone triage for patient inquiries before and after surgery.
  • Assist with bedside procedures such as anoscopes, hemorrhoid bandings, tissue expander fills, feeding tubes, drain placement or removal.
  • Perform nursing procedures including staple/suture removal, wound vac/dressing changes, Port and PICC line draws and care, PICC line removals and hydration.
  • Coordinate patient care through a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Support patients and their families throughout their surgical journey.
