Position Summary: The Registered Nurse Supervisor plays a vital leadership role in overseeing patient care and clinical operations within the preoperative, operative, and recovery areas. This position provides direct supervision of LPNs, Technicians, Medical Assistants, and ancillary staff while acting as a patient advocate and ensuring compliance with the medical plan of care, organizational policies, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Active RN license in CT
  • Associates in of Science in Nursing required
  • 5+ years of management or supervisory experience, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) setting
  • BLS certification required; ACLS upon hire
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Perioperative, circulating, or operating room experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision and leadership to nursing and support staff
  • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures and set appropriate expectations
  • Review patient health questionnaires, medical clearances, and pre-operative testing; address concerns prior to procedures
  • Assess patient charts for accuracy and completeness; review patient history, baseline physical status, and any changes in condition, communicating findings to the physician as appropriate
  • Serve as a clinical resource and point of escalation for staff
  • Provide emotional support and advocacy for patients throughout the surgical experience
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication among surgical, anesthesia, and recovery staff
  • Review medical clearances and pre-operative requirements to ensure readiness for surgery; report pertinent history to anesthesia
  • Assess and interview patients to establish baseline vital signs and physical status; accurately document and communicate findings to the care team
  • Assist patients to the operative suite and recovery areas; receive and provide handoff reports while ensuring patient comfort and safety
  • Assist with patient discharge processes and education as needed
  • Ensure surgical suites are stocked with appropriate supplies and equipment for each procedure
  • Maintain knowledge of medications used and ensure safe and accurate administration as ordered by physician providers
  • Support cross-training in perioperative, recovery, and circulating RN functions
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned
  • Additional tasks as assigned and directed by your supervisor
