About The Position

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the general oversight of the Director, the Registered Nurse Supervisor is responsible for leading the clinical team and managing the clinic workflow. Additional responsibilities include implementing patient care, applying problem solving techniques, building collaborative relationships, maintaining audit preparedness, and participating in meetings. The Registered Nurse Supervisor works in partnership with the Nurse Manager to motivate, support and train team members. This leadership role is accountable for contributing and implementing strategic objectives. The supervisor role will carefully balance direct patient care and supervisory duties to ensure the highest quality service and care is provided. Responsible for the delivery of patient-centered services in accordance with the San Ysidro Health model of care designed to deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective care and improve health outcomes by meeting the population health management needs of the communities served.

Requirements

  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience with direct reports or unit oversight.
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program.
  • California Registered Nursing License.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (American Heart Association).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend medical information and terminology.
  • Ability to effectively present information, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and implement a trauma informed approach.
  • EPIC EMR Experience.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite programs.

  • Outpatient community healthcare experience.
  • HIV or Infectious Disease experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned care team staff, oversee care team operations, and develop teams that meet the growing needs of the communities served.
  • Ensure the staff provides the highest quality of care which complies with the Nurse Practice Act, TJC, federal/state/local, and health plan requirements.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations; delegate appropriately and coordinate duties/activities for team members in accordance with organizational goals for health outcomes, patient safety, satisfaction, and clinical quality goals.
  • Maintain continuous audit readiness of staff and clinical spaces by being a visible leadership example consistently making rounds in patient care areas and ensuring daily clinical compliance with local/state/federal guidelines and requirements.
  • Utilize effective problem-solving techniques and collaborate with Nurse Manager to provide disciplinary action as needed to improve employee relations.
  • Select, train, orient, supervise and develop nurses and medical assistants.
  • Evaluate clinical competencies on hire, annually, and as needed and complete performance reviews in collaboration with Nursing Manager.
  • Perform telephone and walk-in triage to assess healthcare needs, evaluate patient symptoms and provide appropriate medical advice for treatment and/or recommendations for escalating treatment to a medical provider.
  • Document pertinent patient information accurately and timely in the EHR and other databases as needed.
  • Routinely review the provider templates to identify appointment utilization opportunities and scheduling errors.
  • Responsible for management of Registered Nurse (RN) and Medical Assistant (MA) coverage for pre-planned and same day absences.
  • Available for cross site RN coverage as needed.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed to support clinic operations.
  • Daily monitoring and managing of the EHR task/message inboxes and internal referrals queue to ensure timely access to care and follow-up.
  • Respond to patient concerns to resolve grievances and address inquiries.
  • Follow evidence-based guidelines to assist in the development of department protocols, policies, and procedures to optimize clinical outcomes across the continuum of care.
  • Contribute to clinical quality improvement projects.
  • Implement and monitor approved medical management protocols and pathways to optimize clinical outcomes.
