About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering patient care through the development of the nursing process: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The Registered Nurse ensures high-quality, person-centered care and supports the interdisciplinary team in maintaining optimal resident outcomes. This role involves staff supervision, coordinating clinical operations and assisting with quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a current California State Board of Nursing License.
  • Current CPR card required.
  • Current ACLS certification required, and PALS certification preferred for RNs working in the ER.
  • All Registered Nurses will be ACLS certified within six (6) months of hire date.
  • At the discretion of the hospital, full-time and part-time Registered Nurses will be cross-trained and work in any nursing department in the District, including but not limited to Emergency, Acute, and Long-Term Care.

  • Follows safe work practices, takes an active interest in preventing injury or illness and promoting a safe and healthful environment for self and others, and complies with Hospital and governmental safety regulations.
  • Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients, and support agencies
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks, and moves intermittently during working hours and ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents, including assessments, medication administration, treatments, and documentation according to accepted standards of care and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Plan, provide, and evaluate nursing care, recognizing and interpreting symptoms, reporting patients' conditions, and instituting remedial measures in adverse developments.
  • Develop, implement, and update the individualized care plans according to the changing needs of the residents and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Recognize, report, and record any change in conditions or behavior of the residents to the physician and DON.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with facility policies and state/federal regulations.
  • Give concise, pertinent, and accurate reports on residents.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Respond to resident and family concerns promptly.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for CNAs and other nursing staff.
  • Attend mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
  • Act as preceptor for new employees and report progress to the Director of Staff Development.
  • Follow procedures regarding incidents and accidents.
  • Complete and document narcotic count as required.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols
  • Direct the care of patients assigned to Licensed Vocational Nurses and Certified Nurse Assistants.
  • Identify unit problems and follow proper channels for solution.
  • Oversees and communicates with the LVNS and CNAs to ensure that they are performing their job correctly by periodically going behind to check on the quality and status of their work.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in problem-solving by identifying alternatives.
  • Establish therapeutic rapport with patients, families, and visitors - respecting patients' rights to privacy and CONFIDENTIALITY of information.
  • Communicate pertinent information regarding patients at shift reports.
  • Recognize and respond to priorities in the patient care process and adapt to changes in workload.
  • Enforce policies and procedures for nursing units and assist in revising when appropriate.
  • Follow all general and departmental safety, security, and health procedures and policies. Utilize all safe work practices recommended for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Act as DON in their absence and represent the LTC in meetings.
