About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager of Same Day Surgery. The RN's primary job function is to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care in the Same Day Surgery unit during the pre-operative and post-operative phases according to policies and procedures. Documents ongoing nursing process. Accepts responsibility for direction of co-workers in implementation of care plans. Supports each strategic value by providing excellent care to those we serve. Conducts pre-operative assessments in advance of scheduled procedure. Act as a liaison between physician/surgeon's office, personnel, and hospital to ensure that patients are well prepared for surgery. Works with other disciplines/ancillary services in the core they provide.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
  • Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required
  • ACLS and PALS within 1 year of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in ICU, ER, Med Surg, or SDS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Admits patients, completes nursing assessment, and documents appropriately in the nursing record.
  • Develops a plan of care to provide continuity in administering individualized patient care according to hospital and unit procedures.
  • Provides, delegates, and coordinates the plan of care, notifying physicians of ongoing patient care needs.
  • Initiates, manages, and participates in the discharge planning process per unit criteria.
  • Continuously evaluates progress toward the desired outcome and revises the plan of care intervening when necessary.
  • Maintains professional standards by attending required inservices, workshops, committees, quality improvement, and completes required competency in order to function as an educational resource.
  • Contributes to the fiscal operation of the unit using cost effectiveness while maintaining quality of services.
  • Communicates and collaborates with physicians and other health care team members and foster team approach in developing patient plan of care and in all unit operations while maintaining positive interaction with customers.
  • Obtains witnessing of surgical consent form.
  • Obtains nursing data from patients per telephone to initiate assessment.
  • Collects and reviews all pertinent data on surgery patients and reports abnormalities.
  • Provides education to all Same Day Surgery patients.
  • Maintains flexible schedule to meet patient and unit demands.
  • Establishes a positive professional relationship between physician/surgeon's office and with other disciplines within the hospital.
  • Collaborates closely with the anesthesia department.
  • Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
  • Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
