The RN is responsible for the provision and coordination of health care services to students in the school setting. The RN coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes, participates in student/family teaching and provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively in a positive, manner with school personnel, community and various health care agencies in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the school setting. The RN is also accountable to practice in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code Act 368 of 1978, Article 15 (Health Occupations), Part 172 (Nursing). The RN must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the students served in his/her area. Pay Range: $64,958.40 - $97,427.20/annually Employment Type: Full Time, 80 hours every 2 weeks Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Requirements: Graduate of accredited Registered Nursing Program required, Current Michigan RN License (or completed by end of orientation) required, Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider (or completed within 60 days of hire) required, minimum of 2 years nursing experience required STANDARDS OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE Promotes patient safety by maintaining the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department, including maintaining the Patient's Bill of Rights. Practices in accordance with the ANA Standards of Professional Performance including: QUALITY OF PRACTICE -- Systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. EDUCATION -- Attains knowledge and competency that reflects current evidence-based nursing practice. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EVALUATION -- Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. COLLABORATION -- Collaborates with patient, family and other members of the healthcare team in the conduct of nursing practice. ETHICS -- Integrates ethical provisions in all areas of practice. EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE and RESEARCH -- Integrates evidence and research findings into practice. RESOURCE UTILIZATION -- Utilizes appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible. ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH -- Practices in an environmentally safe and healthy manner. In addition, the nurse demonstrates COLLEGIALITY by interacting with and contributing to the professional development and training of peers, colleagues, and students. LEADERSHIP Provides leadership as the healthcare expert in the school setting by assessing the overall system of care and developing a plan for ensuring healthcare needs are met (wellness policies, emergency plans, disasters, infectious disease prevention, crisis prevention, etc). Appropriately directs the coordination of care within the school community, among healthcare providers, families and community agencies. Appropriately directs and supervises non-licensed personnel in the performance of delegated nursing activities. Engages in practice as a recognized member of the school staff serving in key roles by participating on committees and administratively. Demonstrates awareness of and accountability to department/organization strategic goals and quality initiatives (including data collection and reporting). NURSING PROCESS ASSESSMENT Diagnosis, and Outcomes Identification Collects and analyzes data utilizing critical thinking skills to identify student health needs and nursing diagnoses for the school population Maintains records and evaluates student health data guided by clinical judgment and current research, collaborates with family faculty , and healthcare providers to validate data Identifies culturally appropriate short-and long-term student health outcome goals to address needs and documents outcomes as measurable goals Serves as case manager for students with acute or chronic health needs. PLANNING Uses evidence-based information to develop student individualized health care plans (IHP) to achieve expected outcomes to specific interventions Collaborates with school staff to plan strategies to promote appropriate use of school clinic Develops plans for emergency care Collaborates with school personnel in crisis/disaster planning Utilizes an efficient system of documenting care appropriately Develops plans for other school personnel to handle health situations when the RN is not available. IMPLEMENTATION Provides competent, evidence -based nursing care Collaborates with staff to implement student IHPs, coordinates care with student, family, faculty, and community resources Conducts appropriate health screening programs Performs effectively in emergency situations Provides consultation and communicates appropriate recommendations to students, family, faculty and healthcare providers regarding health related issues Documents interventions and activities Demonstrates ability to prioritize and adjust priorities based on student needs. EVALUATION Examines effectiveness of the strategies utilized in student IHPs to determine if outcomes were met Revises student's plan of care as appropriate Examines effectiveness of health promotion, education, and prevention activities with the school population Utilizes data collected from student outcomes and school outcomes to promote school health programs that support student learning and healthy development, documents results of evaluation by appropriate summary and/or annual reports. EDUCATION Utilizes health promotion, health education, and prevention activities to maintain and improve the health and safety of the student, families and school environment. Demonstrates ability to optimize student/family learning through the student/family learning abilities.
