About The Position

Over 185 MESD employees work in School Health Services. We ensure the safety of students by providing the highest standard of nursing care in the school and community setting so that every student has the opportunity to achieve their educational potential. We are nurses, care coordinators, health educators, health assistants, administrative staff, screening and prevention specialists who provide and coordinate specialized health services that support the educational experience for students throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. We are committed to employee and community wellness, advocacy on behalf of students and their families, collaboration with community health systems and school based health centers, research and development to improve population health in schools, and using evidenced-based practice in the delivery of care. We support the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model that combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach by responding to the call for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. Applications are being accepted now and will be reviewed as positions become available. An Oregon RN license is required prior to the start date. The salary listed reflects the 2025-2026 Salary Schedule. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive health services to the students and school communities served by the Multnomah Education Service District.

Requirements

  • Daily and consistent attendance and punctuality
  • Basic knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates organization, leadership, and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle available for use on the job.
  • Ability to become proficient navigating in internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to delivery of school health services.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with high degree of accuracy, efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Valid Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Experience in the use of computer systems.
  • Current certification in CPR.

Responsibilities

  • In accordance with the standards of school nursing practice and Oregon nurse practice act, implement appropriate use of the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care in the school community, including nursing delegation and training for an anticipated emergency.
  • Manage delivery of school health services, including health screenings, communicable disease control, health education, and environmental monitoring.
  • Attain and integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical competency, including appropriate technology, service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the client, family, school staff, school nurse colleagues and other pertinent professional and community persons, including supervisor, in the delivery of school health services.
  • Facilitate resource access and utilization by the school, student, and family to meet the client’s safety, health, and education needs.
  • Participate in the development/improvement of and demonstrate delivery of quality nursing practice.
  • Adhere to the rules and procedures of the licensing agency for the license carried for this position.
  • Maintain satisfactory job attendance record.
  • Use personal safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Director, Sr. Program Administrator and/or Supervisor, including attendance at work-related meetings and participating in school community health-related events.
