About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients using the nursing process. This includes ongoing assessment of the total patient. The RN provides interventions to treat the presenting symptoms and evaluates the effect of nursing interventions and patient's responses. The RN functions as a team leader/member and resource to others. The RN delegates, oversees and provides direction to support staff. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to establish goals and outcomes for each patient. The RN is responsible for meeting the needs of all types of patients.

Requirements

  • Credential:ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer
  • Credential:TNCC: Trauma Nurse Core Course or ATCN
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer
  • Credential:RN: Registered Nurse
  • Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • Credential:PALS: Ped Advance Life Support
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer
  • Credential:DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man
  • Equivalent Experience: Telemetry Competency through testing or Telemetry Monitoring & Management class with passing score within 12 months of hire.
  • Credential:TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees who are in this position on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete this certification)
  • Credential:NIMS IS 100: NIMS IS 100 Introduction Incident Command System
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Credential:NIMS IS 700: NIMS IS 700 Introduction National Incident Mgt System
  • Equivalent Experience: Within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Education: Associates Degree
  • Education Specialization: NRG
  • Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800 required within one year of hire or transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse Exam recommended.
  • Experience as a registered nurse preferred. Exception: completion of one year externship in an Emergency Dept. as part of education. comp.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly assesses patient’s needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence based nursing practice.
  • Provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate
  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care.
  • The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center, and guides patient teaching and maintaining standards of professional nursing. Other functions that may be assigned.

  • Provides opportunities for staff education in: New employee orientation Department/job specific education Education for new services provided by the department Attends education days annually. Attends educational conferences and shares information. Encourages development and implementation of patient education tools in collaboration with patient education committee. Utilizes appropriate lift equipment on a routine basis.
  • Provides direct patient care in the Emergency department and collects data to determine the current functional ability and health status of the patient. Assesses patient/family knowledge base to facilitate admission/transfer/discharge teaching process. Accurately identifies problems to determine appropriate interventions. Initiates and documents a plan of patient care to ensure that patient and family needs are met. Initiates and documents discharge and/or transfer planning to facilitate communication and to ensure continuity of care. Implements and documents plan of patient care to ensure consistency with nursing standards, hospital policies and procedures. Promotes an environment that encourages individual growth and nurtures professional practice.
  • Measures effectiveness of nursing care to ensure that patient care outcomes are met. Participate in quarterly reports of departmental quality monitoring results. Participates in interdisciplinary performance improvement activities. Assists with compliance with JCAHO and MDPH regulations. Participates in established departmental and hospital quality improvement efforts and quality assurance standards.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with Physicians, surrounding hospitals, other health care agencies and community services agencies to enhance the continuity of patient care services, foster communications and understanding.
  • Possesses an understanding of infection prevention and control measures designed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Maintains the standards of the infection prevention and control policies. Implements and maintains isolation techniques per policy. Follows hand hygiene policies and utilizes personal protective equipment as required.
