About The Position

Provides direct patient care, collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of health care services to the specific patient population. Assesses patient's needs, plans care, implements and evaluates patient care in accordance with the patient’s needs based on the nurse’s knowledge of growth/development, the hospital and nursing philosophy, policies/procedures and standards. Demonstrates leadership skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Nursing or enrollment in an RN-BSN or RN-MSN program within one (1) year of hire and completion within five (5) years of hire if hired after July 1, 2012
California Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association (AHA) required in all departments upon hire
Additional certifications required as outlined based on assigned department: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from AHA, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from AHA, Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification from AHA and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Certification if assigned to cost center 6400 2N LDRP (as Labor RN only), Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support (STABLE) course completion, ONS Provider Card, Oncology Nurse Certification, Hyperbaric Certification
One (1) year of acute care RN experience or successful completion of Eisenhower’s Nurse Residency Program
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and unexpected situations
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations in a calm and professional manner
Ability to operate general office equipment (i.e., computer, printer, scanner, telephone, etc.)
Accurate assessment skills, appropriate to the age of the patient, based on scientific facts and principles
Knowledge and ability to function in a professional role and serve as a professional role model
Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices in rendering of patient care
Written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Performs physical assessment on patients in pain service.
Develops plan of care based on assessment.
Demonstrates implementation skills in accordance with EMH Standards of Care, policies, procedures, and Nurse Practice Act.
Evaluates effectiveness of nursing and medical interventions.
Changes intervention strategies when expected outcomes not met.
Consistently documents in accordance with EMH policies and procedures.
Consistently administers medications and documents in compliance with medication administration policies and procedures.
Demonstrates competency in the operation of equipment specific to pain service.
Provides accurate and precise reporting of patient condition and changes in a timely manner to physicians.
Adheres to guidelines for internal transfer of patient care.
Epidural Catheters: Rounds on each patient with epidural catheter to ensure that care is effective, Provides staff education as needed for procedures/epidural equipment, Gives bolus doses as ordered by physician, Assists with discontinuation of catheters.
Initiates discharge planning upon admission and throughout hospitalization in conjunction with Case Manager where appropriate.
Rounds on all pain patients to assist physicians and staff with the management of patients’ pain and does clinical data collection. Coordinates care with physician.
Participates in patient care conferences.
Performs pain management education to patients and staff.
Provides clinical expertise and is a resource to staff to solve pain specialty related situations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
