About The Position

The major goal of the nurse is to provide quality nursing care to patients throughout Imaging Services. Provides direct patient care by providing pre/post and intra-procedural care for minimally invasive procedures in: Diagnostic Radiology, CT Scanning, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, Mammography, and respiratory department. This position performs a variety of integrated functions, intuitively, using the nursing process of assessing and identifying needs, planning care, implementing appropriate intervention, documenting, and evaluating outcome while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner.

Requirements

  • Credential:ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer
  • Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support. Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer
  • Credential:RN: Registered Nurse
  • Education: Associates Degree
  • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must also be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Medium. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.

  • Minimum of 3 years critical care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • (30%) Assesses and monitors patient condition and initiates appropriate nursing intervention to include physical, emotional, psychosocial and family support.
  • (30%) Plans patient care to include organization and coordination of all aspects according to the patient's perceived need and implements the patient's plan of care to include demonstration of proficiency (according to hospital policy and procedure) in nursing skills.
  • (20%) Evaluates the patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient's plan of care.
  • (20%) Instructs patient and family regarding treatment and outcome and assists when needed with proper procurement of consent forms and incident reports and communicates interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
  • Functions as a patient advocate and provides patient care to inpatients and outpatients by meeting the physical and emotional needs of patient and family.
  • Assists with contrast reactions and intervenes when a patient develops problems or in emergency situations.
  • Assists radiologists, cardiologists, and pulmonologists with procedures and treatments that require professional nursing skills.
  • Administers medication (as needed), and monitors controlled substances as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Complies with policies and procedures as well as other regulatory agencies. Functions as an assistant using sterile technique during procedures.
  • Demonstrates skills in using special equipment such as monitors, infusion pumps, pacemakers, oxygen equipment, and respirators.
  • Assists with research projects and performs follow up procedures.
  • Assists in development of educational programs for imaging staff including patient care, safety, and infection control.
  • Provides educational programs regarding the Imaging nurses role continuity of patient care, and topics related to radiology.
  • Assists with orientation of other nurses.
  • Demonstrates professional development by promoting clinical knowledge development, improving strategies for comparing clinical judgment through the development and implementation of research projects and continuing education.
  • Acts as a resource person for nursing, medical and Imaging Services staff and a liaison between Imaging and nursing units.
  • Documents patient status and care given while utilizing verbal and written communication with physicians, radiologists, technologists, and nursing units regarding patient status, treatment and outcome.
  • Assists with the provision of nursing care for critically ill patients transferred to the department.
  • Areas of nurse functions include: Imaging Services, MRI, respiratory department, and Center for Women's Health.
