About The Position

Sentara Obici Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Short Stay (SSU) Observation Unit! Flexi/PRN - Days About the Unit The Observation/Short Stay Unit is an 18-bed department that specializes in observation, post-procedural monitoring, and short-term treatments, including TIA workups, stress tests, and radiology procedures. The maximum stay is typically two days per patient. Registered nurses can expect between 6 and 8 patient discharges per shift, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:5 to 1:6. The unit is supported by a highly skilled team of unit coordinators, educators, and a nurse manager. It benefits from low staff turnover and a strong culture of collaboration. Additional PCT staff are available to assist with ambulation and patient care. This well-supported team is ideal for both new graduate nurses and experienced Registered Nurses looking to expand their skills. Sentara Obici Hospital is recognized as a certified stroke center and holds magnet designation for excellence in patient care.

Requirements

• Students in process of obtaining Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing
• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
• Students in process of obtaining Registered nursing licensure
• Registered nursing License (Required)
• BLS required within 90 days of hire
• None required

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
• 1 year of acute care (preferred)
• Previous healthcare experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

• The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
• The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing.
• The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas
