About The Position
Adelphi is seeking a substitute Registered Nurse (RN) to provide nursing services in a school setting located in Brownsville, Texas. The ideal candidate will work closely with school administration to provide services to students in accordance with established guidelines and standards of practice. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
- Active, unrestricted Texas RN license
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Experience in pediatrics, school nursing, or community health
- Knowledge of school health regulations, FERPA/HIPAA, and medication administration guidelines
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care, including first aid, assessment, and treatment of student illness/injury
- Lead clinical decision-making within the school health office (when present or consulted)
- Perform full assessments and identifies when escalation is needed
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and school policy; monitor outcomes
- Implement and oversee Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs)
- Support students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizures)
- Maintain accurate documentation, medication logs, and health records in compliance with regulations
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex or high-risk student conditions
- Provide guidance to unlicensed assistive personnel as appropriate
- Collaborate with school staff, parents/guardians, and regional nursing leadership
- Any other duties as assigned
