An RN position in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Gillette Children's in St. Paul, MN involves caring for children and adolescents who are physically or cognitively impaired due to developmental issues, trauma, or neuromuscular diseases. Nurses in this unit work closely with an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and physicians, to create individualized care plans that help patients regain function and improve their quality of life. The RN plays a key role in managing medical needs, monitoring progress, and supporting both patients and families through the rehabilitation process, all while fostering a compassionate and supportive environment. Purpose of position This position exists to administer family-centered nursing care to patients, advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention, and/or provide skilled assistance in navigation of the health care system as appropriate to the developmental, cultural, emotional, and medical, surgical, or rehabilitative needs of the patient and their families.

  • Provide high-quality, family-centered nursing care that supports optimal patient outcomes.
  • Conduct thorough assessments, create individualized and evidence-based care plans, implement interventions, and communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team.
  • Practice autonomously, using sound judgment and incorporating evidence-based improvements into daily work while supervising and delegating appropriately.
  • Ongoing professional development is encouraged, with opportunities to participate in quality improvement, pursue learning, and contribute to a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
  • Documentation of completion of professional nursing program (RN program)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license through the MN Board of Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (exception: Telehealth RNs). If candidate holds valid CPR for through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
  • Must be interested in working with people with short term or long-term disabilities that begin in childhood.
  • Physically able to work hours required and meet physical demands of the position.
  • In certain departments, this will include being part of the off-premises call schedule.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other healthcare related field
  • Prior nursing experience in a health-related setting
  • Nursing Specialty Certification relevant to the position.
